And as if it were a paid actor, a rat appeared from one side of Draco’s living room, paused in the middle of the floor to look up at them, then disappeared through a hole in the opposite wall.

On cue, the rat reappeared from the hole in the wall, and sprinted in the direction of Draco’s tiny bathroom.
“Right!” Weasley said loudly. “Well! That’s that decided then. I think you’re coming to live with us, mate.”
And that was how Draco ended up living at number twelve Grimmuald Place.

Summary
Tom had always considered it particularly petty on Albus Dumbledore’s part in assigning Tom to be the one to introduce muggleborn first years to Hogwarts. He was sure that Albus thought it was some sort of teaching moment, exposing Tom to muggles repeatedly as though he’d gain some sort of empathy and moral epiphany whenever he met a half-decent parent.
However, it didn’t matter how many muggles he met or how many of them actually tried to be a decent parent to their magical children. There were more failures than successes, more broken homes and troubled children than not.
And it seemed to be getting worse every year.

No one else would warrant the Dark Lord’s attention like Potter, but he only ever expressed the desire to kill him. The immobile figure had to be alive or why bother bringing him? Had something changed? Did the Dark Lord want to entertain himself by torturing Potter to death? Draco’s confused thoughts were swiftly interrupted when there was more crunching gravel outside. His Mark flared with pain."
Everything changed after Dumbledore fell from the Astronomy tower. In a single night, all hopes fell on the shoulders of a teenage wizard. Despite the few who assembled to protect Harry Potter, they were outnumbered. As a result, they could do nothing to help Harry as he was captured and brought to Malfoy Manor. Alone and behind enemy lines, Harry clings to life as Voldemort chooses to keep him alive for unknown reasons. All the while, the Malfoy family try to adjust to their unwilling guest and the demands that their master expects.

Just before his eleventh birthday, Harry is found in a dark London alleyway. He is subsequently taken to stay in the home of one Severus Snape until he begins Hogwarts. Harry isn't quite sure what possessed him to agree to this arrangement, and Severus has no intention of allowing Potter's unfortunate progeny to get under his skin, but this is a Severitus fic, we all know how it ends.
