It seemed as though Pavetta’s betrothal had shaken loose something in Geralt’s brain. Or, no. Maybe that wasn’t it, maybe it was preparing for the banquet, letting Jaskier work nimble fingers through his filthy hair, passing a cloth so deftly over his aching shoulders. Geralt wanted nothing more than to forget it, but he was finding that he couldn’t stop thinking about it at all.
Or: Jaskier keeps patching Geralt up, and asking him for help, and touching him, and Geralt absolutely does not know what to do with all these feelings.

“Why,” he started and then changed his mind. It was stupid. Geralt turned to look at him only to find Jaskier already looking back. “How do you keep finding them?”

“Those flowers. Yellow ones.”
“Ah,” Jaskier smiled, laughing a bit. “Well, those flowers are buttercups. And how do I find them?” He shrugged. “I think it’s a gift. Oh yes. My natural talent even. I find buttercups everywhere I go.”
“I thought your natural talent was pissing everybody off and getting in trouble.”
“Oh shut up.”
Geralt chuckled.
They fell silent. The only thing Geralt could hear was the chirping of crickets in the grass. It wasn’t exactly what he had meant to ask.
“Why do you always put them in your hair?”
Jaskier shrugged again.
“Why not? I love buttercups,” he said simply as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Oh. Jaskier. Of course. Geralt should have known.

He doesn’t need anything else, as long as he has this. Doesn’t need a girlfriend, a boyfriend, doesn’t need the ache, the drama, the romance. He read it once - in a comment, under a video or a tweet, he doesn’t remember - “soulmate” it said. It sounded like the kind of cheesy stuff Eddy could say, but it wasn’t wrong. He has no other word for it apart from “best friend”, but he feels like this couldn’t properly convey everything they are to the other.
