    Summary

It's been a decade since the Phantom Thieves of Hearts disbanded, and Ren's life is going well -- he's got a new job in Tokyo, he's reconnecting with his old friends, and he's starting to get a handle on mourning the life he used to lead and the boy he couldn't save. When he runs into an eerily familiar stranger, however, everything starts to split at the seams.

Or, Amamiya Ren buys cheap coffee at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and all the grief he's tried to pack up and ignore comes back with a vengeance.

“Is he in here a lot?” he asks quickly, nodding towards the boy.

“Here and there,” and as if the bartender can sense Seonghyeon’s follow-up question, he clarifies, “he likes boys like you,” he says, looking at Seonghyeon with a slightly wicked grin.

    “Like me?”

“You know the type. Dark hair, exotic looking, a bit mysterious. Honestly, I’m surprised he hasn’t come over yet.”

or Seonghyeon likes to do stupid shit, but if that means meeting him, then he'd do it a thousand times over

Maybe this is just another AkeShu fanfic... or maybe it isn't.

I'm trying to explore the idea of a possible relationship between them in a somewhat more mature way. It'll be a long journey, but... will you give the good ending a chance? I promise it will come, even if it doesn't seem like it.

Everything begins with them as teenagers, reshaping the game's canon while staying as faithful to it as possible. From there, the story will develop in a direction that, at least as far as I've seen, hasn't been explored much in AkeShu fanfiction.

Are you ready for the ultimate game of chess between Akira Kurusu and Goro Akechi?

    Summary

“Well…” Ren starts, even though no more than half an hour ago he punched Akechi in the face, “I… have Phantom Thief money.”

It feels lame in his mouth and so he stops himself there, even though this does not convey nearly the amount of information it needs to. This is backed up when Akechi just stares at him blankly.

“… Which is not Detective Prince money,” He continues, “But… might buy something better than a… questionably clean hotel.”

Akechi snarls a laugh. “I don’t need your handouts.”

“I mean—” Ren rushes, and it’s so pathetic how his protective anger has abandoned him to his vulnerable desperation, “It’s not a handout if I’m there too.”

Akechi blinks at him, then plants his face in his hands. “Oh dear God no.”

Ren looks up in time to see Akechi outside the train window before he departs from Tokyo. After missing his train to catch up with him, and with Akechi having nowhere to go in light of his miraculous resurrection, it's only logical and ergonomic they share a hotel room for a night. Or two.

    Summary

Akechi Goro is a classically trained pianist, honor student, and member of the student council at Shujin Academy. He has a meticulously laid plan for the rest of his life; a private, burning need for revenge, and everything to prove.

Amamiya Ren is a new transfer student at Shujin Academy with a criminal record and a constant swirl of rumors about him. But, he also has a love for music and his new friends, a desire to live his own truth, and nothing to lose.

It's inevitable, then, that their seemingly at odds tendencies and crafts push them into a rivalry. And they do say to keep your friends close, and your enemies—or, rivals closer, after all.
