Summary
When Steve gets invited to a formal party with the government, Fury tells him he can bring a plus one of his choosing. While listening quietly in the corner, Tony heaves a sigh of relief because the team could really do with some positive publicity and any of the Avengers are a good choice for Steve. Tony just wants Steve to be happy after all, even if he knows Steve's gonna pick Natasha. He knows Steve doesn't like him and he's aware there's never going to be anything more between them. They're barely even friends really.
So of course he's absolutely shocked when a gold filigree letter rests in his palms two days later. He's the worst person for this.

Steve thought every man he looked at a little too much was cursed. He starts to think that maybe this all isn't worth it. Then they come back.

As Eddie begins to walk away, he hears a moan and freezes- well, he would've, if he hadn't just tripped over his own two feet and fallen face first to the ground with a yelped "shit!", his metal lunch box slipping from his grasp and landing a couple feet away.
