Summary
Iida sits next to him outside the bath, holding his hand tightly—as tightly as he had when he caught Izuku out of the sky just a few hours ago.
“You can sleep if you want,” Iida says quietly. “I will make sure you don’t fall in.” Iida’s smile is smaller than his brother’s, more subdued than All Might’s, but it is just as steady. Perhaps more genuine. A quiet I am here, I won’t let you drown that Izuku wishes he could inspire in others.
Trusting his friends to keep him safe, he lays his head against the wall of the bath, but he doesn’t fall asleep.
Across the room, Kirishima catches his eye and gives him a thumbs-up and a grin. Izuku watches him blankly, wishing he could return the smile, but he just can’t.

Basically, I thought the end to the Dark Deku arc was too lighthearted, and I wanted more of a tender, angsty beat about recovering through burnout.

The plain-looking woman at the prescription pick-up desk cocks an eyebrow upon scanning the papers that Shouta hands her. “Midoriya Izuku,” she comments. “He’s the kid who got kidnapped, right? Someone found him in some basement.”
Shouta doesn’t like what he sees in her eyes. “Uh huh.”
“Huh. Makes sense that they’d lump him with a pro hero,” she intones, her eyes flitting to Hizashi. It sounds like she’s trying to crack some sort of relatable joke, but it falls critically flat. “With a quirk like that… well, I mean...”
“--and what are you implicating?" Shouta snaps.
Midoriya Izuku has an extremely dangerous quirk and falls under the hands of some extremely dangerous people.Eight years later, he is discovered within the midst of a League of Villains base raid.

It was supposed to be rudimentary training, Izuku thought staring at the mountain of snow in front of him. Basic training in the elements. Reach the waypoint by the end of the week. Survival training. Izuku stared at the red snow in front of him as he did his best to stop the bleeding. Communication device lost - as well as Satou and Sero, a jagged branch protruding from his calf just above his boot, and Ochako unconscious beside him. This was going to be some survival training indeed.
