“It’s not a real kid, Chase.”
Chase is technically underage, he’s a year away from being able to drink but the bartender didn’t bother to check his ID. Chase has always looked a little older than he was, it works in his favor now.
Nobody at a hero bar like this would assume he was so young.
“How the fuck do you think that?” Chase asks, spits. His hands still shake with the memory of it. The beer in his hand shakes with the tremors of his hands. “How the fuck do you do it?”
Mechaman sighs, deep, disappointed. He leans back, taking his whiskey with him.
The rest of the Brave Brigade was downstairs, drinking in victory, dancing with the other heroes, celebrating.

The video goes online four days after the crash.
“Warning: Pilot Ejection Advised.”
“Not while we’re still over the city, no- can’t risk this thing blowing up and landing on top of civilians. Maintain cruising altitude, calculate shortest route to minimal population area.”
“Altitude Locked - Calculating.”
For a moment, just a split second, Mecha Man visibly hesitates. Then, he switches hands, keeping the flight controls steady while reaching for a panel on the other side of the cockpit. A faint chime sounds, followed by a ringtone. Three repetitions. A voice speaks, too faintly to be heard over the wind, then a louder beep.
“Hey, buddy,” Mecha Man says, gaze locked onto the viewscreen in front of him, almost directly at the camera recording all of this. “Don’t think I’m going to be able to make it to dinner this weekend after all, sorry."

There's a hunger in his eyes and a sharpness to his teeth that makes Chad feel cold looking at him. And he's very interested in his dispatcher.

Summary
Outside the oncologist’s office Robert sits on the small retaining wall that keeps the blossoming flowers behind it safe from foot traffic and continues to take deep steadying breaths. It’s ironic. Cruel in that banal way life tends to be. For the first time he’s been learning how to be Robert. He’s not Mecha Man Astral’s son and heir to the legacy. He’s not Mecha Man Blue, subsumed in the suit, holding everything together with duct-tape and determination. He’s just… Robert. Robert who sits behind a desk and dispatches a team of reforming villains. Robert who owns a fat little dog he loves. Robert who has Chase back in his life. Robert who cut Coupe and brought her back, Robert who survived Shroud not once but twice, Robert who owns a gifted couch and more lamps than he has places to put them, Robert who wants a life outside of that metal legacy, Robert who wants to live.
He should feel something about that, he thinks.

Summary
Maybe the hypnotizing spin of the microwave meal had been the first thing to lower his guard. Beef sniffing at his shoes might have been the second as Robert spared a second to bend down and pet him. His back protested not-as-loudly- as he had expected when he stood back up. Out of the corner of his eye he vaguely registered Sonar’s ears flicking toward the sound.
However his eyes were then scrunched shut as the lack of sleep won, and he yawned. Loudly.
And as yawns were want to do, passing from one person to any witnesses, it got Sonar next, who also yawned, mouth opening wide and fangs shining against the afternoon sun that came in through the window.
And Robert, apparently tired of living, cooed, as if he were talking to Beef, “Ooooh, big yawn!!”

Summary
Chad doesn’t know how long they’ve been in the shipping container, but Robert’s starting to look bad.
The mask is gone, sitting in a heap next to Robert with the rest of his armor. He’s currently in just the flightsuit, which is unzipped and pooling around his waist.
Chad hadn’t looked directly at him since he peeled off the top of the suit earlier, too conscious of the way his mouth went dry as the sweaty, scarred skin of his chest and abdomen was revealed.
But he made himself look a few minutes ago, just to check up on him, and he’s been hard-pressed to tear his eyes away since—not because he’s horny, but because he’s fucking concerned.

Summary
Robert moaned and thrashed, but no matter how hard he struggled, he couldn’t seem to lift his arms. His whole body ached, and his head was spinning so badly that it was difficult to think straight. He was having trouble keeping his eyes open, and whenever he did manage to open them, everything around him was so blurry that it was impossible to make out anything in detail. All he could remember was that he was in danger, and he needed to escape. He needed to get away, back to his team, back to his friends.
“Easy, Bob Bob,” he heard someone mutter nearby. “Easy. You’re okay, now. You’re safe.”
“No,” Robert groaned again. He wasn’t safe. He wasn’t. He just knew it.
After being abducted and injected with a mind-altering venom, Robert is thankfully rescued by the Z-Team and brought to safety. But the venom flowing through his system is making Robert believe he's still in danger, and when he's desperate, he's known to fight dirty. Thus, the only way to keep him from rolling out of the medical bed and hurting himself is to get a little...creative.
Thankfully Flambae is up to the challenge.
