Summary

Summary
For the first time in his life, Altair has to atone for the consequences of his own actions. He falls, but with no faith in a safe landing. He needs rest, but can't trust to not be stabbed in the back. He asks forgiveness, yet doesn't believe to deserve it.
Malik lost his brother, his arm, his future, his freedom. He is trapped, in a half lit den, drawing maps of the streets he used to run through.
Desmond is angry; at the Animus, at sixteen, at the apple, at the gods. He doesn't want to be a spectator anymore. He can't bear to see them die, the people he loves. Not again.

It’s a thought Desmond has more often than not. Not resignation and not acceptance, either. Just pattern recognition, simple and predictable:
the world breaks, he shows up, and things get messy before they get better.
This is how it’s always happened.
Then, within a single blink, something is breathing against the back of his neck. Warm, steady, and far too close. He turns to a blur of white and black and red, to the screeching drag of breath that isn’t quite human and doesn’t bother pretending to be, either. For a moment, neither of them move. Then—
“Hey,” Desmond says, voice rough with sleep. “Personal space.”
The shape pauses. Tilts.
Pierrot, he’s learned, does that when he’s thinking.
