    Summary

The human face is, after all, nothing more nor less than a mask...

January, 1933. Mystery Novelist Henry Fox is called back to New York for an urgent meeting with his publishers, cutting his book tour unexpectedly shorty. Relying on the wiles of his best friend, Percy Okonjo, he secures a shared compartment on the California Zephyr, a train running from San Francisco to Chicago. Bunked with a charismatic lawyer and surrounded by an odd jumble of people, Henry settles in for a comfortable trip.

When the train becomes snowbound in the Rocky Mountains, and a passenger is found dead in his berth, an inconvenience becomes a ticking clock. Henry, determined to help his friend and keep an innocent person out of prison, agrees to play detective until they reach the next city. As the hours tick down, one thing becomes starkly clear: the murderer is, without a shed of doubt, still on the train; one of the ten strangers wandering the corridors and cars of the Zephyr.

    Summary

“The tragedy of life is that people do not change…”

October,1928. When asked by film star, Arthur Fox, to consult on a family matter, Alex Claremont-Diaz hadn’t had a whirlwind trip to Egypt in mind. Posing as Fox’s latest assistant, Alex is tasked with observing the actor’s daughter and new husband, their family and gathered guests aboard a glamorous Nile steamboat.

The idyllic honeymoon set against the pyramids and temples turns tragic by elements just as ancient as its surroundings — passion, blackmail, and murder. With Arthur’s youngest, rakish son, Henry, acting as assistant, Alex is determined to find the killer before the boat makes port again. Will he succeed, or will his own efforts be cut dramatically short?

    Summary

In 1989, Arthur Fox set out to drive the Pan-American highway on motorcycle. With nothing but a small production crew in a pickup truck for support, he and his cameraman ran the length of South America, through Central America and Mexico, to end at San Antonio, Texas, two weeks before Christmas. The trip, Arthur would say after, changed his life.

Thirty years later, novelist Henry Fox is asked to recreate his father’s journey to mark the anniversary. Alongside his old friend and award-winning actor, Alex Claremont-Diaz, and his father’s best friend and original cameraman, Shaan Srivastava, they attempt to ride from Tierra del Fuego to Los Angeles in a hundred days. It’s a test of more than body and bike. It’s a test of endurance, relationships, and nerve.

    Summary

From the credit card slots, she pulled a slim pale blue card with neat, deep green writing on it. She slid it across the table to Alex, Nora very obviously studying him as he picked it up, read it, and turned it over in his hands. It wasn’t a flashy little missive – short, straight to the point, diplomatic even.

    Summary

When Carlos pulled his arm away, they turned their face up to his. Soft features and rose petal lips, green eyes that appeared center-less and endlessly deep in any light, a delicate fan of lashes around them. Dark hair dropped over his forehead, the rest tucked up under the hat, which he usually didn’t wear. Carlos’ shirt was draped over his arm, his father’s hat hanging from his fingertips.

“Give it back, Carlos,” TK said, voice just audible above the din. No one paid the pair any attention. The next match was winding up with much cheering and hollering. TK squeezed Carlos’ wrist tighter. “Give. It. Back.”

“Sleep.” Henry huffed. “I just bloody want to sleep. I’d give my left eye to not be so goddamned exhausted—.”

“I’ve an idea,” Pez interrupted. Henry nodded for him to go on; he was desperate enough to try even the craziest of Pez’s schemes. “You may or may not be aware of all Oxford campus services, but—.”

“I’m going to regret this,” Henry huffed.

    Summary

August 1816: Summer has all but vanished for the Northern Hemisphere. Clouds and fog block out the sun in Massachusetts. Ice dams rivers in Switzerland. Snow falls as often as rain.

On the shores of Lake Windermere, Henry Fox is holed up trying to scrape together his somewhat-respectable writing career. Attempting to escape the fear of failure, he attends a party at the Holleran home where he meets a young man who speaks no English, rumored to be the illegitimate son of a Spanish priest and an Aztec princess. He's beautiful and fascinating to all the guests, including Henry.

But, when the party is disrupted by a snow storm over the lake, leaving Henry and a few more guests stranded, Michael Holleran proposes entertainment -- write something, anything, to perform for everyone. Struggling to write and distracted by the newcomer, Henry finds himself falling deeper, and discovers that not everyone is who they seem.

    Summary

Alex how found the simplest solution for all the facts he had been presented. There were plenty of them to make sense of. Alex was taking the path of least resistance, accepting that whatever remained after all was stripped away must be the truth. June could laugh at him for the rest of time if she wanted. He was right. He knew he was right. He had to be right because nothing else on earth or in the universe made sense.

Henry Fox — his smarmy, entitled, wealthy, bland, irritating neighbor — was a vampire.

Alex knew it. He could prove it.

Alex stepped up into Henry’s side, pressed the center of his hips to the rise of Henry’s denim-clad thigh. His light fingers trailed along the small of Henry’s back, chin perched on his shoulder as he watched the dance floor. “C’mon, baby. That could be us.”

“Love,” Henry whispered as he pressed back against his boyfriend. He wrapped an arm around Alex’s waist as he swiveled his hips, adding pressure. “That is us.”

    Summary

    “Hello, Pyramus.”

Henry arched his back where he lay and smiled at the voice. That same American lilt he’d thought about for days on end, guided his hand in the shower in the morning, kept him in a reasonable mood despite the annoying rush of the week.

Stretching his arms above his head, Henry’s skin sang with the need to put on a show. He waved his fingers in open air. “Hello, there.”

    Summary

    Alexander Claremont-Diaz needed a drink.

    A good drink.

A strong, generously poured, warming drink — preferably as soon as possible — and a sturdy brass rail to lean against while he soaked in its much needed effects.

More importantly, or at least more immediately, he needed a suitable place to dry off.
