Summary
The twinge he feels is something Etho immediately assigns as childish, stupid, and to be forgotten about, so he shoves it down and tries to forget.
But these are not things easily forgotten, and the first time Etho stumbles out of camp late at night expecting that what he feels is nausea, he falls to his knees in the bushes, yanks his mask down, and coughs until he spits something up. For a split second he can only stare down in shock as he thinks what he's seeing is blood, but when Etho reaches to touch it is solid and smooth. Blood-red flower petals.

Summary
Etho's whole awareness becomes the hands, cold and latex-sticky, pulling his head back and clamping a muzzle around his face. He bit three of them the first time they touched him; they've been wary since. Etho has spilled a lot of blood. His shoulders scream as they painfully jack his arms behind them, tying them together locked from wrist to elbow. The catch pole is loosened enough that Etho won't suffocate, but isn't taken away, and God, how can he breath, hands on his face and arms and neck and in his guts and in his lungs leaving no space for anything else —

Etho didn’t like touch.
This was understood amongst the Hermits. It was a thing. Just as Joel hated horses and Mumbo hated sitting still, Etho would shrink away from physical contact and stand on the outskirts of social situations. The Hermits understood that you didn’t touch Etho.
However, something being understood was very different to something being practised.

Summary
A month before the moon crashes into the world, Etho vanishes without a trace. No one searches for him, too preoccupied with their own escapes, expecting him to just turn up again as he alway does. Months later, when Xisuma is finally able to bring the hermits back together in a fresh world, Etho isn’t brought with them. For months, they search for him, though their efforts lead to no result, and everyone is left believing that he’s been lost in their previous world - forever. Bdubs won't give up hope, not yet - but, with each passing day, he hopes less and less.
Meanwhile, Etho has been trapped in an ancient realm, below the Nether, below Void itself, unsure of how he arrived and unable to escape. All he knows that is he has to ascend, climbing block by block, until he can finally reach the Overworld. As he explores the unknown realm, he starts to realize that he isn’t alone - someone is down here with him, haunting him like a shadow. As he fights to escape and return to his friends, Etho can’t help but wonder… What exactly brought him here?
