Summary
Ren has settled into a quiet, normal life teaching kindergarten. He absolutely doesn't think about the time he was a phantom thief or the glove he keeps always in his pocket. But everything changes when a student brings in a homemade book for story time. The book is all about a group of thieves, Joker, Panther, Skull, Fox, Mona, Oracle, Noir, Queen, who stop an evil king by stealing treasures from castles. Ren has to know who wrote it.
Akechi has settled into a quiet life as a philosophy professor. He doesn't think about his time as an assassin detective or the boy he tried to kill and then died for. But then he walks into a classroom to read a storybook for the class of an orphan girl he watches over and everything changes.
When two hearts reunite after years apart, things unsaid find their way to the surface.

Summary
His knees hurt from sitting on the tile; his head hurts from the nonstop pounding; his entire body is sweating profusely while also feeling as though it’s about to freeze to death. He sheds his dress shirt and tie before stumbling through the doorway to the bed and collapsing, curling up into a ball. The uncomfortable feeling of his sheets touching skin is reviling, but overpowered by the sheer fatigue dragging his soul down.
Akechi falls asleep to the sound of his own heavy breathing. The messy, quiet apartment might as well be housing a corpse instead of a human being.
Or, Ren nursing Akechi back to health.

“You’re testing my fucking patience,” Goro says, gritting his teeth.
She turns to look at him, tilting her head with slow, cat-like grace. Goro widens his stance and grips the hilt of his sword. He refuses to look away. She glances up and down his form, yellow eyes narrow, searching. Then, she stops; she smiles. “You can wake him up with love,” she says. “True love.”

“You should’ve said something earlier. You’re a sight for sore eyes.”
“Would it have made a difference?” he asks, long lashes obscuring silver eyes. Akechi’s eyes are unreadable, and he’s back in his face, taking up too much space, and now their noses are brushing against each other’s, and his eyes are fluttering close as their lips meet slowly, gently. Ren’s heart does a funny little thing, skipping a beat or two, and there’s something incredibly poetic about being kissed by your own killer as if you’re their salvation, as if their very soul is tethered to yours. As Goro removes his lips from Ren’s and leans back to look at him, his eyes are honest.
“Don’t let it mean anything”, he whispers, and Ren’s not sure if it’s meant for him, or himself.

“Holy shit…”
The sound of Akira’s voice and his sudden tension made Goro pull away in alarm and look up at him. Akira was staring out into the cafe, toward the tv, his eyes wide and the color of his face noticeably pale. Goro spun in alarm to follow his gaze.
Only to see a familiar mugshot staring back at him from the television screen.
The numbness that had been threatening Goro since the subway suddenly engulfed him. He was on his feet, barstool hitting the floor behind him. He just… stared at the screen in disbelief. The words the news anchor was sharing didn’t make sense to his ears, the kanji on screen seemed foreign and broken. But somehow the information still filtered through the static of his mind.
Former Prime Minister candidate Masayoshi Shido, age 55, has been found dead in his prison cell of an apparent suicide.

“It is,” Akechi had replied automatically.
“Ah, good,” the man said. “We tried to reach Akira Kurusu, but we weren’t able to get ahold of him. I’m calling about your son.”
About his son. The principal called him in the middle of a Thursday about his son.
“Did something happen?” he asked.
“Well, you see, he bit another student…”
He bit a kid, Goro repeats to himself. I used to do that shit too. Don’t all kids bite? Maybe, but he’d never had a parent to come pick him up afterward.
(Goro gets a call from the principal about Wonder biting another student. Goro doesn’t know how to handle this shit, but he does his best.)
