“Do you remember Madame Morrible and her awful Prop and Ganda department? Well, I figured that I could put them to actual good use. And so I did a little image rehabilification.”

    “A little?”

Glinda twirls a strand of blonde hair around her finger, not meeting her eyes. “Tiny. Microscopical. Infinitesimal. Just a whisper of a coordinated multiyear plan involving publicists, historians, theater troupes, and a very spirited group of fans.”

    Elphaba blinks.

    Glinda smiles sweetly.

“Elphaba,” she says gently, “darling—to come back from a smear campaign, you simply must have good press.”

Or, Elphaba spends ten years being dead. Oz spends ten years falling in love with her. She did not request a redemption arc, let alone one so exuberant.

    Summary

It’s a tombstone, and a beautiful one, though the Ozmapolitan fails to acknowledge the craftsmanship when it releases its next issue with a fat, bold headline stamped across the top that reads Mystery in Mourning. There’s no name anywhere on it, the article stresses in the first paragraph on the front page. No marker to identify the body interred underneath, only poppies etched into the bevel and pediment. And so, speculation abounds.

Or: Post-canon fic wherein Glinda erects a grave for a green witch that never actually died in the first place. One thing leads to another.

Or, or: Sad cemetery smut with a helluva lot of religious overtones

Elphaba’s lucid dreams allow her to hope for things that, by day, she would never even consider a possibility.

    No longer being green.

Being loved for who she is.

    Things like that. Impossible things.

(Also repeatedly fucking Galinda, but that’s not quite as poetic.)

    Summary

"You've never been kissed." As she keeps speaking, Galinda finds a giddiness rising within her. It's much easier to offer help rather than ask for it, after all. "I can help you practice, too! For whenever you decide to date someone!"

Another stretch of silence, but Galinda is steadily regaining her usual confidence. Because had she not just been wishing for an acceptable reason to kiss her best friend? And if she's helping Elphaba with all of this, as well—well, that's so many birds with so few stones!

    or

Galinda needs practice doing something she's never tried before. Who better to ask for help than her best friend? But Galinda quickly discovers the truth about what--and who--she really wants.
