Queen Ygraine asks the question gently, but Arthur knows better than to mistake gentleness for mercy.
He has come to ask permission to formally court Merlin: son of Balinor, Chief Dragonlord of Albion, and Hunith, Ygraine’s trusted lady-in-waiting. It should be simple. It is not.
Because Merlin is not only the man Arthur loves. He is Dragonkind’s future, Dafyd’s blood, Druid-touched magic, and a sovereignty older than Pendragon law.

Four months after the Fourth of July, Mel King comes back to work still named in a lawsuit she is going to win, and starts keeping a record of everything the department nearly gets wrong.
She does not know that under Pennsylvania law the record is discoverable, admissible against her, and evidence of a duty she breaches every time she writes in it instead of reporting.
Around her: an interim chief running the department under an ultimatum to disclose a seizure disorder. A charge nurse holding a rape kit in a locked box that no one will come and collect. Two nurses whose information network is verbal, and therefore cannot be subpoenaed. A co-defendant she is forbidden to speak to. And a sister who has revoked her power of attorney.
Everyone is doing their job correctly. That is the problem.
