Summary
Canon Divergence AU. Tom finds out about Edith’s pregnancy and asks her to run away to America with him to hide it from her family. Edith goes gladly, hoping against hope that Michael Gregson will turn up and marry her before it’s too late. When she learns of Michael’s death, Edith turns to Tom for comfort, which quickly turns into something more. Being so far away from Downton makes it easy to forget the life they left behind, but it’s not long before that old life comes knocking at their door. Set during season 4.

After Sybil’s death, Violet thinks it’s improper for Tom to remain in Sybil’s room in the ladies’ hall. Tom, being a young man with no wife, would be sure to set off gossip if people were to know. Cora is aghast at the suggestion that they kick him out of his room. It seems only fitting that he should remain with the rest of Sybil’s things.
