Summary
As time passes and Ray gets older, he realizes that he’s begun to resemble Isabella more and more. Too often have his sleepy siblings mistaken Ray for their Mama, saw her silhouette in his shadow. Their casual comments felt like thorns in Ray’s skin.

The girl in front of Emma passed the last couple of papers back, and after taking one for herself Emma handed the only remaining page to the person sitting behind her. She skimmed the top part, that essentially only repeated what the teacher had just said, and her eyes fell on the prompt:
If you could only remember one thing about your life, what would it be?

Summary
They’ve been living in the human world for a year, and Ray doesn’t feel the way he should. Shadows of everything that should no longer torment him linger around him constantly, and it’s starting to break down his last defenses, because how are you supposed to find peace when you’ve never known anything other than fighting?
And then there’s Emma, with a smile bright enough to blind him and eyes trained enough to see completely through him. Ray’s falling, and he’s not sure he knows how to land, or if he even wants to.
Or, in which Ray learns how to put the battle behind him, see the girl in front of him, all while winning a few games of chess.
