A decade after the Ealre pandemic ended and people are still on edge. Camps are still open. Kids carry weapons in their backpacks like any other notebook. Especially here in Colorado where the last of them was seen 22 months ago. Uriel felt tasked to protect it. Adira just wants people to feel safe again. Neither get want they want.

Summary
Kate Bishop is trying to get her life under control.
College deadlines are piling up. Her professor is already warning her about slipping grades. And for once, she’s actually trying to put the whole vigilante thing on pause.
But when a neighborhood deli owner Kate knows becomes the victim of a suspicious “accident,” something about it doesn’t sit right with her. What starts as a small mystery begins to reveal something far more deliberate, and far more dangerous.
Meanwhile, Yelena Belova is trying very hard not to think about her parents’ latest attempts to fix her personal life. The easiest solution is simple: take another job.
Unfortunately for both of them, that job happens to be in New York.
Set after Hawkeye and before Daredevil Born Again and Thunderbolts. This fic is meant to bridge the gap and cover Kate and Yelena’s intimate bond they form between the events.

Summary
Life in Russia was so different than life in Ohio. In Ohio, Yelena had had people smiling at her. Here, they seem either cold as the snow outside or angry, angry in ways Dad had never gotten. Angry in ways the girls around her seem to expect. (When little Yelena has finished her first month, she too will have learned to anticipate the blows. But that is for another time).

Yelena is breathing heavier than she was when she was shot because she wasn’t useful. The mission is over and she’s in here and she made Bucky have to be in here and everyone else had to pick up her slack, she can’t afford to have any slack to pick up, she has to be useful and instead they had to take care of her like a liability. Liabilities do not get to survive.

In other words, Yelena learns young that your usefulness directly impacts how long you survive and how much you hurt along the way. So when she's thrown into the Thunderbolts, well... let's just say old habits die hard, and Yelena doesn't quite understand this whole "unconditional safety" thing.Mind tags and notes. I own nothing.
