“No, what’s Wednesday?” Ellie asks, brow furrowed.
“Valentine’s Day.” He chews slowly. “I only ask because I’m not gonna be around to cook that night. Me and Tess might go out for drinks after work.”
She swats at his arm across the table. “Way to go, old man!”
He rolls his eyes. “Nothin’s final yet. I thought you might be meetin’ up with Jesse or something.”
She snorts around a huge mouthful of rice, scattering some back onto her plate. “Why the hell would I go out with Jesse?”
Joel shrugs, eyeing the spit rice on her plate with mild disgust. “Sure do talk about him a lot is all.”
“He’s my manager, we interact a lot. But it’s not like that.” If anyone’s going out with him, it’s probably Dina. She spends enough time hanging around at his desk anyway.
“We’ll see, kiddo. I’ve got a pretty keen eye for these sort of things.”
“Not so keen with this one,” Ellie replies with a chuckle.

Dina walks back in the room, steam escaping the bathroom and slowly dissipating into the colder, easier to breathe air. She has wrapped a towel tightly around herself, the corner tucked securely between her arm and her body.
Ellie is still in bed, having refused to get up because she had wanted to sleep in a bit longer.
She's fast asleep, but is now facing Dina's side of the bed - even though this is Ellie’s bed, it’s her place, Dina now considers it her side - she has her arms wrapped around Dina’s pillow, her entire face pressed into it so Dina can only see messy strands of hair poking from behind the pillow case.
Dina suppresses a laugh, wonders how Ellie’s breathing at all, but she’s forgiven for her goofy behavior. She’s way too cute.

Ellie puts her arms up, hands hovering over Dina’s forearms. “I did tell you a real fucking story!” she defends herself. It’s not her fault that Dina doesn’t believe her, she finally got the courage to share that about herself and Dina fucking resorts to violence instead of hearing her out.
Dina grabs Ellie’s left hand and pins it down next to her head. With her other hand she takes Ellie by the chin. “Oh, you want a bite mark?” she says and now her voice is playful, the slightest pull of her lips suggesting the smirk she’s trying to hold back.
“Wha-“ Ellie’s interrupted again but this time by her own short-circuiting brain.
