Twilight holds the kid’s hands, sees the way his ring finger turns in just like Twilight’s, how his pinky is crooked, how the fine bones jump under his skin like piano strings, and presses those precious knuckles against his mouth. Not to kiss, just to cherish close like a breakable, vulnerable thing. Wild doesn’t know delicate. He doesn't know a gentle hold or a touch that is not a sword’s bite or a kick in the ribs. Summary
Wild heard his name being called, hurried commands being thrown around in the background, but the fog was too tempting and it was too hard to pull away. He felt his mind slipping, his grip on the ice doing the same. Icy water climbed up his torso, along his neck, past his chin.
A cacophony of panicked shouts and one terrified, “Cub!!” later, and he felt the water and fog swallow him whole.

He just wanted to relax.

“Are lizards bugs?” Hyrule asked, blinking up at Twilight with big, innocent eyes.
Twilight considered that. “Depends on the size. The lil’ ones you could make an argument for.”
“What about mice?” Wild asked with much less innocence and far more glee.
“I think you could find a mouse that’s a bug,” Twilight mused.
Wars was making little sputtering noises. “There’s - there’s science to this! There’s science, Twilight!”
“Yeah,” Twilight said with full sincerity. “It’s called pointin’ at somethin’ and sayin’ it’s a bug.”
