Bellamy gently wraps his hand around her forearm and slides it down slowly until he engulfs the back of her hand with his palm, “I’m still here.” His breath tickles her forearm and warmth radiates from every place his skin touches hers. It feels like heaven in the palm of her hand.

“Got a new lackey to hide behind?” He asks Kipps as the older boy stares at his sword embedded high above them.
“My name is Lucy.” The girl informs him with a hard glare before Kipps can even open his mouth to speak, a soft Northern accent ticking through her words.
This is unusual – Kipps’ crew usually loiter behind him self-righteously but they let their not-so-fearless leader do the talking. Clearly, she is new if she doesn’t know that yet. If Lockwood wasn’t quite so cocksure of himself, the scowl she’s sending him would probably take him down a peg or two.
As it is, he instead becomes instantly fascinated.

The mirth on his face doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. If anything, Bellamy looks like her showing up in too big clothing and eyeliner dotted across her face as freckles is the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

He’d remembered learning in Bio once about major histocompatibility complex, which had something to do with a person’s unique scent, and how some scientists thought that the more different a person’s histocompatibility was from yours, the more likely you were to be attracted to them. On a base, instinctive level. By scent. By sight. By sheer proximity.
Bellamy wasn’t great at science, so he didn’t actually know what the fuck that meant. But whatever his histocompatibility something-or-other was, it had gone fucking haywire when Clarke Griffin had walked into the room. Blonde hair, upturned lips, blue eyes, dimpled chin, soft figure, hard gaze. She smelled delicately flowery, but she looked like she could kill you. She was a wrecking ball to the solar plexus. And he absolutely did not have the strength for it.
She’d KO’d him in one look.

“I highly doubt th—“ The words die in her throat when Bellamy sidesteps, his broad shoulders and curly hair moving out of her view to reveal a scene so awing Clarke couldn’t have imagined it even in her wildest dreams.
There’s a slight clearing amongst the trees, offering what acts as almost an alcove of forest opening up to a scene that looks like it could have come from an Old Earth fairytale.
Hundreds of butterflies fluttering their wings amongst the enclosure, floating above their heads, some even diving to twirl around her as she steps into the clearing.
Somehow, that’s not even the part that takes her breath away.
No, what really does it is that the butterflies are glowing.
