"It hurt like hell and Ray cursed while sinking to the floor, clutching his hand to his chest, now sobbing uncontrollably. He was so far gone. He knew he fucked up but he couldn’t control it. He expected Sand to yell at him now, storm out and slam the door behind him. He knew he deserved it. But he didn’t hear anything over his sobbing, now curled up on the floor, eyes squeezed shut while hugging himself....."
Ray lashes out at Sand, not realizing he's overwhelmed from withdrawal symptoms.
Sand is patient and guides him through it, showing him how to truly be loved.

Ray is used to being able to do what he wants once he decides he wants to do it; he is rich, and very few people have ever cared enough to try and stop him. He expected the doctors at his fancy rehab clinic to be pleased that he was prepared to give up drinking, and he’s shocked when he does not receive the praise he’s been anticipating.
“What do you mean I can’t just quit?”
Zero days into sobriety, Ray learns that recovery will be anything but straightforward. When his expectations collide with reality on a rainy morning that should have been clear, he's forced to confront a choice he thought he wouldn't have to make for years.
Luckily, he has Sand to help him make it.
