Meanwhile, Caroline struggles to find her place within the Mystic Falls group, gravitating toward Tyler, who is wracked with guilt over a recent death. Begins ALMOST canon, but small changes snowball quickly.

Laughing together as they tried a new recipe every night, taking turns picking what movie to watch, being cooped up in one of their bedrooms for hours, sometimes all through the night. As far as Elijah could tell, the only intimate thing they were doing in there was enjoying one another’s presence. He hadn’t so much as seen them kiss, even after all this time.

    And yet. And yet.

    Is it serious? felt like such a small question in contrast to its monumental answer.
