"It is our happiness to share and be shared with," the Seskille Collective says, and unravel it they shall, because there is only one aboard the Enterprise capable of giving them what they want, and whether or not he agrees to share in return is irrelevant.

He is forced to be a prisoner in a mine and is tortured. Kirk feels responsible and withdraws from the crew while he works on a way to save McCoy. This creates conflict within the crew especially between Scott and Kirk. They must unite to find a way to help the doctor.

Summary
Leonard McCoy has been through some shit. A terrible divorce, losing his kid, and terrifying life-long spooky weirdness due to having his psionic potential catalyzed by God-Knows-What in high school. When his best friend, James Kirk, finally took command of the Enterprise, things seemed to be looking up -- right up until that damned green blooded hobgoblin got involved.
This is the Second Year of the Five Year Mission as it could have gone, with angsty romance, harrowing adventures, metaphysical revelations, and McCoy discovering that James Kirk and Spock care more about him than he'll ever know.
