Jean Moreau was no stranger to madness. He faced the insanity and follies of humanity and endured their violent consequences without succumbing to madness himself. Repeatedly, delusions of grandeur and psychotic complexes struck him like waves crashing against a rock, but Jean remained, though unstable, sane. He bent—sometimes beyond what he thought he could handle—but never broke, and considered himself immune to the siren song that compelled stupid people to do stupid shit for stupid reasons.
So when Jean found himself going to a frat party for the simple and exclusive reason that Jeremy Knox would also be there, that right to brag vanished like a snowflake in the sun.

Kevin can’t help but sigh. He hasn’t felt this relaxed for more than a few hours in potentially his entire life, and he’s already dreading the return to rambunctious, overconfident freshmen and dorm rooms with way too many people crammed into them.
He turns in place to let the water run over his back, and it’s then that he notices: Jean is watching him.
It’s by accident that Kevin meets Jean’s eyes, but Jean isn’t exactly hiding his looks. His head is fully turned in Kevin’s direction, hands absentmindedly rubbing suds into scarred skin.

"Kevin looks up at Jean with wide, wet eyes, and Jean can almost see the red and gold of their lovingly decorated apartment morph to funeral black in Kevin's mind. He is a million miles away from the present, back in Riko's room, and Jean and Jeremy were his only lifeline both here and there. This is not unearned fear. Kevin is many things, and Jean may call him a coward to his face, but he is not fragile. Kevin doesn't shatter like this. Kevin is strong, and protective to a fault, and he would never cling to Jean like this if Tetsuji hadn't broken him to nothing while Jean wasn't looking.
'He cannot take you,' Jean murmurs into Kevin's hair. Jeremy rubs his cheek against Kevin's knee in agreement. 'We will not let him.'"

What starts as a reconciliation visit to California shatters into a make-shift psych hold for Kevin at Jean and Jeremy's when Tetsuji Moriyama announces his plan to force his godson into a conservatorship. Jean and Jeremy race to reexamine the story of Kevin Day they've been told before Kevin finds drastic means to escape returning to his own personal hell, and find that not even the son of exy could survive what went on behind closed doors alone.
