Cloud is shoved into his life in an opportune moment for Genesis to do just that. He will become Clouds mentor and prove himself capable.Cloud is left to deal with Genesis selfish actions.
Genesis has to survive the degradation eating him from within, his own mind proves to be a similar threat. -

Cloud wakes up on August 11th. It’s his 16th birthday. In 52 days, Nibelheim will burn. This has happened many times before, and he’s getting angry and tired of this time loop thing. It’s time for a different approach.
Sephiroth doesn't understand where this strange infantryman suddenly came from, or why he seems so determined to spend time together.
(Cloud wants to get laid. Sephiroth just needs a hug. Neither of them know how to talk things out. Also, there's a time loop.)

“So, let me get this straight,” Cloud says exasperatedly. “I fuck you once. For several weeks you have been thinking about it and trying to draw it but you couldn’t remember what I looked like. And you want me to, what, strip so you can try again ?”
“No, no, I haven’t been thinking about us fucking,” Genesis clarifies. “I hardly remember that. I remember you and...light. There was light that struck you so beautifully the scene wouldn’t leave me. And I’d actually prefer you keep your clothes on. I’d only like to sketch your face to be sure I don’t forget.”
“That’s…” Cloud’s nose scrunches even harder, and it’s quite cute. “…arguably weirder.”
“Never said it wasn’t,” Genesis admits with humor. “I’m not exactly stable, but seeing as you fucked me, you probably aren’t either.”

Cointreau is a brand of orange-flavoured triple sec liqueur produced in Saint-Barthélemy-d'Anjou, France. It is consumed as an apéritif and digestif, and is a component of several well-known cocktails. It was originally called Curaçao Blanco Triple Sec. Despite the orange bottle, Cointreau is colourless.

Summary
Cloud starts preening Genesis' wing out of necessity—the damn thing is such a mess that he needs to fix it before it drives him insane.
He continues helping after that, and Genesis quickly becomes spoiled, insisting that only Cloud is capable of caring for his wing properly. Cloud indulges both of them, and he doesn't quite mind when they grow close because of it.
Genesis' wing is almost as beautiful as the man himself, and Cloud is more than happy to spoil them both.(Cloud later finds out that Genesis' feathers are especially sensitive, so he ends up spoiling him in a different way).
