    Shane Hollander was a good fucking liar when he had to be. And more and more often in his life he felt the necessity to be. He picked his moments with care, you see.

    Shane knew that the best way not to get caught in your lies is to let yourself get caught. Let people catch you in small, inconsequential ones, give them fake tells. Let them think that you can't lie to save your life so that when you do have to lie to save your life, you can. Shane did a lot of that sort of lying.

    Or: Shane’s family is part of the Yakuza (basically Japanese mafia), Shane has been part of this for as long as he can remember so has been lying for that long. You can’t lie forever…
