一年之中，三个月冬眠，三个月发情，三个月繁衍，三个月休养狩猎。看似规律，实则在这片处处是猛禽凶兽的森林显得孱弱不堪，稍有不慎，自身便有可能沦为腹中餐。
于是蝰蛇族大多数都因生存环境恶劣由卵生进化为卵胎生——即在腹中便完成孵卵的过程，直接生下幼蛇。
万分不幸，卢卡·巴尔萨便不在“大多数”之内。
他是唯一一条破蛋而出的卵生蝰蛇。
