Summary
To most citizens of Snezhnaya, the journal that connects them to their penmate - their other half - is a blessing. And those who never hear back from theirs are considered some of the most unfortunate, the most unlucky, the most worthy of pity and sympathy.
To Lord Capitano, however... it is a curse. He knows he is unreliable at best as a penmate, so he never writes back. It's easier to grieve the loss of something you never had, rather than wishing for another taste of what you only once had.
But Lord Capitano isn't immune to having his heartstrings pulled. He is a man at the end of the day, after all. A man with a heart, a man who still has some humanity left to his soul. A heart that a young boy from Morepesok manages to reach through sheer persistence and will.

Childe heaves a sigh of relief. The Tsaritsa wasn't mad at him. That was good.
“You may spend your leave wherever you like,” the Tsaritsa adds, a teasing touch in the inflection of her words. Perhaps it’s the fact that he’s been mortally wounded, but Childe almost thinks he sees warmth in the Tsaritsa’s cold eyes.
Childe perks up at this. His body somehow finds the energy to go red. He closes his eyes and thinks of a golden place full of light and warmth and everything nice in the world. A certain man made wise with time, who he has been aching to see. He’d hold his hand if he were here now, or even curl up next to him, pressing a light kiss on his nose. All Childe wants is to return to his side.
His mind is made. A smile, light yet full of love, adorns his face.
“I’d like to go to Liyue.”
Or, the aftermath of the Fontaine Archon quest, in which Childe goes back to Liyue and elegantly collapses into Zhongli's arms.

Summary
Perhaps this was why sitting in Zhongli’s apartment never ceased to feel so unreal.
Day after day, he woke up, the sun creeping in through the windows, and he would turn to face the love of his life.
And wonder when this would all inevitably come crashing down.
Because Zhongli was perfect. And the space Childe used to inhabit, where Guizhong once sat, was once filled with perfection, as well. And Childe knew there would come the day when Zhongli would realise that Childe wasn’t good enough for his perfection.
In which Childe learns that love is not conditional, and Zhongli learns grief can be shared and halved.
