"It's only going to get worse, you know," he mutters lowly. Everyone else is asleep. Sophie is only a few feet away, in her alcove under the stairs.
You reach out your hand. Calcifer holds flaming arms out to catch the petals that fall. One by one, burned up in his flame. You lower your hand back to your lap, staring at your palm. Blood stains your skin. Spattered on from the coughs that wracked your body.
The amount of petals grows by the day. And with each day, the more drained you feel. You don't know how much longer you can assure Markl you just haven't been sleeping well.

Alex huffs out a dry laugh. “I’m literally looking at you right now.”
He shakes his head, slowly looking back up at the ceiling. “I don’t know, Sebastian. I don’t know why seeing you like this has me all- uh, flustered, is that the word? I don’t know, you just look-“
Alex drags his eyes back down and lets them trail over Sebastian’s body. He takes a deep breath. “Good. You look good.”
