Dream of the Endless does not have a secondary gender. He is not human, has never been human, and has no intention of starting now. This is a fact he has been comfortable with for the entirety of his billions of years of existence.
It is also, as of today, no longer true.
This is Hob Gadling's fault. Dream is almost certain of it.

Summary
Once upon a time there was a king who had lost his queen. The kingdom mourned the loss but none felt it as keenly as the king himself. Then one day, many years later, word reached the castle that the queen was being held captive in another land. At once, king Morpheus set off on a quest to save her, bringing only his trusted first knight, Sir Robert Gadling, and manservant Mathew with him.
It may be a fairy tale but this one is not a tale as old as time. Rumour has it that the king’s affections has shifted since the queen left him. Some people at court whisper that he has grown awfully close to his first knight… If that is true then it is not the only secret that the king is keeping. The secret that nobody, not even Hob, knows, is that the king is not exactly human.

Summary
Human!AU where Dream is pretty imminently breaking up with an abusive Thessaly; Hob is his oldest friend and taking care of him. (The Dreamling in this is pre-relationship and that relationship is likely a QPP/QPR in my head).

"Shh, sweetheart, I got you," Hob murmurs, taking out the jumper from his bag and offering it to Dream. He really, really wants to find Thessaly and give her a piece of his mind, but right now, he has Dream to take care of.
"I'm sorry for bothering you but I just… I couldn't anymore," Dream whispers, Hob's jumper loose and drowning his slender frame. He winces with every motion and Hob suppresses his own.

Summary
Desire stares at him, their golden eyes heavy lidded with a cat-like amusement.
"Oh, darling," they say. Hob wrinkles his nose.
"What do you want?"
"What do I 'Desire'?"
"Just tell me, mate. I don't have much desire to play twenty questions with the person who directly contributed to the suicide of my best friend."
Desire opens perfectly painted lips, the exact colour of a bruise, and then closes them again. They look to Despair, who shifts anxiously.
"It is a delicate matter. We'd like to come in, Hob Gadling. It is about our late brother."
An accusatory silence settles for a few seconds, and then Hob disrupts it like a startled flock of birds, shoving the door open wider.
"Fine. Make it quick though, I've got stuff to do."The twins come to Hob at the behest of their late brother, to fulfil his final wish - with Hob's help.
