Kayo, realizing that she’s not getting anything else out of him on that topic, leans back against the tree trunk, pressing her wrist against her forehead and wiping sweat off of her brow. Her eyes wander back to the fox figurine still in his grasp.
“I didn’t think you’d be the type to collect things like this.” She points loosely at it with her hand.
“I’m not,” he admits. In truth, while he often does take things from his cases, and often steals them from various doomed households and bloodied hands, he leans towards unique and useful things. Tea cups. Ceramic trays. Pieces of jewelry, like his necklace and ring.
“Then why take it?” she asks, curious.
“…It’s for my junior,” he admits, surprising himself.
Or: Ri and the extreme discomfort of admitting that he enjoys the company of at least one curious human, and at least one strange coworker.
