Summary
Where Zandik had stumbled, Dottore played perfectly. It is, technically, a superior performance. Where age had stiffened Zandik's fingers and stolen the fluid ease of youth, Dottore played without fault. If he were a fairer man, he would have complimented Dottore, whose body has never, and never will, experience the weight of time.
Pantalone is aware of this. He is also aware that he does not care. He will admit, nostalgia does make him a little biased, and Pantalone finds that he still prefers Zandik's playing. He's certain that he always will.

Summary
There are many ways for a story to end.
In one world, the Doctor dies.
In another, the Regrator does.Faced with an outcome that should not exist, the Doctor, a man who values knowledge above all else, retraces his steps on where it all went wrong. That, while accompanied by an unexpected variable.
This is not a confession. It is an impartial eulogy.
Or: A retrospective featuring an unreliable doctor and an equally unreliable narrator.

Summary
“Not to be rude, but you have a lot to learn about human society.”
"Teach me then,” Sunday says. Does he realize the implications in how he says that, while half-naked in his office? Probably not.
“I can start off by saying that we don’t usually start stripping in the middle of business meetings.”
“Usually,” Sunday says, one finger raised, like he’s found a gotcha moment.
Working with angels can drive a man insane, if only because it's often likened to bashing your head into a brick wall, repeatedly, while the angel looks on in chaste delight on watching the human perform. Aventurine, however, can roll with the punches; his angel is weird, and often disconcerting, but he sure is nice to look at.

Summary
Half expecting to see him at his desk, Regrator walks into Zandik’s office and sits in the opposite chair, trying to stave off his disappointment in the dark. The room is dead silent, the desk empty, the chalkboards clean and blank. Regrator is left with nothing but the acrid, bitter aftertaste of being left behind. Lifetimes and lifetimes spliced together, moments of vulnerability and victories, camaraderie, bickering, and countless more of their strange, steadfast companionship. Dottore was his constant for better or for worse. Feofan can hardly remember a life without him. And as much as this was planned, knowing something is imminent is quite different than stepping through the threshold.
Pantalone returns home in the wake of Irminsul's burning.

Summary
The doctor always wore a mask. He crouched and leaned in, close enough that Feofan could see the viscera-glint of his eyes through the slits of bone porcelain. With one hand, the doctor pressed his gloved fingers into Feofan’s mouth, to deposit a single pill. Feofan swallowed. The pain in his midsection bled out of him within seconds.
“Well, Feofan Sergeyevich, today is your lucky day.”

Summary
After a failed assassination attempt leaves a banker in Zandik’s care, he discovers that “professional interest” becomes significantly harder to maintain when the patient is beautiful, philosophically radical, and keeps touching his face under anaesthesia.
Or, after being betrayed and sold off, Feofan ends up in Zandik’s laboratory, where hatred of the gods proves to be an unexpectedly intimate thing to have in common.

Summary
The villagers come to the end of the street and soon they see what the blond-haired boy and his two friends had seen earlier that morning: the familiar, teal chocolate shop, boarded up and closed. Instead, tacked across the wooden panels covering the large, glass window, is a new sign.
The sign is in neat, looped cursive.
On it, the writing says: ACKERMAN’S TEA SHOP.

Summary
Levi nearly snorted at the look of him - flushed, hair awry, yet still his eyes had the look of a man in the midst of calculating one of his improbable field maneuvers, of solving some impossible thing when nothing in the world, Levi thought, could be simpler. Play the game, or don't.
