Summary
Happiness is something Dean thought he could never have. Happiness is something Cas knew he could only have for one single moment.
It’s hope and not happiness Dean is after, when he asks Jack to bring Cas back. Hope for a future with Cas, because he can’t see any future for himself without Cas. Happiness is not something he dares to hope for, just like love is not something he dares to hope for. But he can hope for Cas and maybe that’s actually the same as hoping for happiness and hoping for love.
Cas doesn’t know what to hope for, what to wish for, what to want. One moment of true happiness already felt impossible until it happened. Is there more true happiness for him with Dean? Can he hope, wish, want that? Will they be able to find happiness with each other?Bookmarked by Mimonstarr

Dean takes a really, really long drive to kick fear in the ass. It might just be the best thing he ever decides to do.

The seat squeaks, and Dean follows the sound, his gaze trailing down. There—where Jack sat moments ago—is a much tinier version of him. He looks mostly the same, just...smaller and more dimply and cuter, if that's possible. His clothes have shrunk to fit him, so he's casually sitting in a t-shirt, jeans, and scuffed tennis shoes. He swings his feet from side-to-side over the edge of Baby's seat the same way Sam used to in the back, and he stares up at Dean with clear eyes.
"Oh," Dean blurts out, eyes bulging, "Cas is going to fucking kill me."

Summary
A piece of rebar to the heart wasn't really the way Dean had planned to go out, but these things happen. It's over now; everything's over, and now he's in Heaven. It's a beautiful Heavenly day, on a beautiful Heavenly road, and there's even a Heavenly cassette tape playing a perfect Heavenly song. The last war is over; they won it all, victorious at last, and now all Dean wants to do is drive.
The song plays, and Dean drives.
At last he's at peace.

Summary
A ghost hunt goes wrong, and Dean ends up fighting for his life in an icy river. A certain angel somehow knows he's in trouble and shows up to help, but doesn't have enough power left to warm up Dean. It's just a simple cold night in the woods, but things can go wrong fast at night in the woods, and soon Cas and Dean must each decide what they'll risk to save the other. And they just might end up so exhausted that they accidentally start talking.
Canon compliant; focuses on the Dean/Cas breakup of S15E03, but takes place 2 months later. It's a couple weeks after "Golden Time", S15E06; Eileen has just been brought back; Cas/Dean breakup was 2 mos ago; short FBI phone convo was a couple wks ago. Sam/Eileen implied gently in the background. Warning: NO SMUT and not a totally happy ending yet, but it ends hopefully.
(This fic will probably be rendered irrelevant by canon immediately, but I wanted to put a pin in the map right now, before the show ends, & think through my own take on the possible reasons for all the Dean/Castiel tension of the last two years. And see if I could make it all make sense.)
