    “Yeah,” Dick said. “You’re going to stay here.”

    But Tim was already shaking his head, though it made him tilt for a moment, his jaw clicking shut.

    It took several moments for Tim to breathe through whatever feeling he needed to breathe through and by the time he finally managed to raise his head fully once more he looked absolutely exhausted.

    “Thank you for the training.” Tim said. “But I should really be-”

    Tim didn’t so much as stand as rise from the chair momentarily without his legs ever really taking on his full weight before they buckled.

    Dick had seen it a mile away, easily taking hold of Tim’s elbow and slowing his descent while also making sure that he didn’t overshoot the chair.

    “Oh.” Tim breathed.

    He was fine, really, he was probably just over exaggerating in the hopes to get Batman to carry him back to the Cave.

    But pain was still radiating down his leg, his whole body trembling no matter how hard he tried to stop it.

    “Batman,” Batgirl said. “I need to get him out of here.”

    “Acknowledged.” Batman grunted back, rolling out of the way of the club.

    “No, I’m-”

    Tim’s voice cut off the moment he tried to stand yet again, new pain slamming through him though this time he was able to grit his teeth enough to quieten the sob he wanted to let out. He looked down, the world stopping as he saw…

    Fuck.

    He whined, unable to stop the pathetic noise, wishing for nothing more than for Alfred to just turn around and walk away. Wishing that Alfred would just leave him to his misery already, leave him to deal with this by himself.

    Alfred did no such thing, simply offering up a cool cloth so that Tim could wipe his face and mouth.

    Tim’s hand trembled, nearly dropping the cloth, his eyes stinging at the knowledge that Alfred would never again look at him the same way. Now Alfred knew just how pathetic Tim was, there was no coming back from that.

    He shouldn’t have stayed after patrol.

    He should have just gone home but it had been so comfortable on the Wayne’s couch that it had felt impossible to pull himself away from it until all of a sudden he had awoken with a start and with the desperate need to purge his body of every single thing he had eaten over the last century.

    Well, Tim hadn’t been a thing for a century yet, but the point still stands.

    It was an act, Tim reminded himself.

    An act to work out which of these gangs had a hand in the trafficking ring that has been getting ever bolder recently.

    It was an act.

    It was an act and yet Tim felt as though he couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t breathe, couldn’t escape, and there were people talking about him, laughing at his expense, nudging their Seconds as if certain that their gang was going to be the one to win the ultimate prize.

    Tim bit his lip hard, forcing himself to settle. Well, settle enough within himself as to not panic in a very controlled, very safe, situation, without risking tipping off any of the gang leaders here in this room that he wasn’t so hopeless after all.

    Jason was still talking, or at least Red Hood was, but the words all blended into each other.

    Tim couldn’t breathe.
