“I want to watch the sun rise.” Ben muttered, “It reminds me that even as the dark sets in, the light will come back around eventually. It always does. It has become hard to remember that recently.”
The answer left Jaster speechless.
Ben sounded wounded– hurt in a way which would not heal with time alone. He looked like a tired Verd, a battle-weary warrior. Jaster had seen the look before. Many Verde wore it. The glint of deeply rooted pain sparked in Ben’s eyes too.
Instead of asking more, Jaster turned his head to watch the sunrise along with Ben.
It was peaceful.
The dawn of a new day.

Tim closed his eyes and thought about Jason, bright and passionate and alive. Robin laughing as he leapt across Gotham’s rooftops. Jason snickering into a plate of hors d’oeuvres as Brucie Wayne spilled wine on a rude socialite. Robin gently placing a bandaid on the skinned knee of young girl, spinning a dramatic tale to distract her from the pain. Jason standing in the parking lot of Gotham academy, rambling excitedly about the Great Gatsby to an amused Dick Grayson. Robin grinning over his shoulder at Tim as Tim raised his camera.
Gotham needed a Robin.
But Robin was dead.
Tim thought about Robin, cold and broken and still under Gotham’s soil. Robin, whose last moments had been pain and terror. Robin, calling for a father who would arrive too late. Robin, who would never fly again.
Gotham needed a Robin.
But Robin was dead.
Robin is dead. Tim Drake is going to fix that.
