“What’s wrong?” Jack asked, beginning to get a bit worried about the other man.
Robby fidgeted with his hands nervously.
“My–erm…” He began. His eyes darted around the room. “My ex is here… not as a patient. I think as a potential new hire.”
“Your ex?”
“Hmmhm.”
“The one who hit you?” Jack said with a low growl.
“He didn’t hit me…” Robby objected, turning his gaze to his feet. “He just pushed me around… and I kinda did egg him on.”
“That’s not–” Jack stopped himself. “He laid a hand on you.”
“Okay I get it! He was bad for me. I know that. I need you to do me a favor… I think he’s going to see if I’m available and maybe try to get me back.”
Robby's toxic ex starts to work at PTMC and he asks Jack to be his fake mate. He didn't expect to acually fall for his best friend in the process.

Dennis needed a new phone. Plain and simple. He was still using the godawful iPhone 8 he bought brand new in his freshman year of uni.
Nine years was not kind on a piece of technology. At his first debrief after that first death on his first day of his MS4 ED rotation, when his embarrassing ringtone went off, he said he forgot to turn his phone on silent. That was a lie. It just… did that sometimes. Went off at the worst possible moment. Then, there was the camera. During his first week of R1, when the screens went down and he was the only one who got a picture of the board, he was mortified, but not surprised when the photo looked like it was taken by a hundred-year-old dementia patient with no opposable thumbs.
It could at times be frustrating, but Trinity took all the important photos and usually when it gave him problems, he could give it a love tap—or if he was honest with himself, slam it against the nearest surface—and it stopped randomly buzzing. Or randomly blasting his embarrassing dad rock. Or randomly calling his mother, who never answered anyway.
It wasn’t a problem. Yet.

Robby and Jack were finally settled into their relationship. It took Robby breaking down and almost throwing himself off the roof for him to finally admit he needed therapy and Jack couldn't be prouder of his husband. They didn't need anymore shit after it took them fifteen years of friendship and a few failed relationships to find their way to each other but life doesn't always listen and it unexpectedly throws them a curve ball in the form of an unknown child.

Summary
They have a rule for their days off. Robby doesn't have to think, Robby doesn't have to make choices and he can give up control to Jack and Dennis. It's an effective tool that has helped his anxiety and calmed him down. It's also only effective with the two men he loves and trusts though sometimes Dennis decides to be a brat. Luckily Jack is up to the task of taking care of Robby and neither he or Dennis much care how needy he is.

The sirens were wrong.
Robby knew that before he even knew his own name.
They weren’t the controlled, purposeful wail he had spent decades trusting, the sound that meant movement, action, intervention. These sirens were jagged, tearing through his skull in uneven bursts, like something wounded and screaming instead of something racing to save a life. His life. Or what was left of it. The world came to him in fragments: heat pressed against his skin, the thick, suffocating warmth of a July night clinging to him like a second body; the acrid tang of gasoline and burned rubber coating the back of his throat; something wet and sticky along his ribs. Blood, distantly, clinically, he recognized it, too much of it. Not arterial spray. Slower. Internal, maybe. That thought should have alarmed him. It didn’t.
Nothing did. Not anymore.
