With everything going on with The Collector and some of the kids missing, Darius finds it hard to relax these days. Stress is a constant he’s grown used to, even more so than when he was a deep cover spy.
Then Darius runs into Hunter. Except he’s not quite Hunter right now.
And any stability his world had seems to fall apart.
(Or with the right threat, Belos makes it to the isles while still possessing Hunter. Darius is the first to run into him.)

“It’s a shame you have these… things,” they spat, lifting a wing up once again but with a lot more force, stretching it high and picking at the plumage. Their hand plucked a feather, inspecting it- and he held still, breathless, a drop of blood welling from the spine. “The curse of wild magic never leaves.”
“Wild… wild magic?” he asked, quietly.
They nodded. “It destroyed this village, our family. They took you hostage- are you alright?”
"I’m your uncle, Hunter. Uncle Belos.”
Making a grimwalker goes wrong, somehow. Maybe he used too much palistrom wood, or somehow finally using his brother's heart instead of bone had more of an effect than he thought it would. Because this one has wings. This one, isn't quite as witch or human as it is animal and other; wings like the palisman of the witch that lead his brother astray. The very form of the palisman that lead him away.
But maybe it's a good thing. Even if this one is cursed by wild magic, and couldn't even take on a humanlike form- and could become less than an animal, take the form of a bird, it just meant he didn't need to feel guilty when he killed it.

Darius looked somewhat startled by Hunters immediate professional attitude. It must've have given him whiplash to see someone go from bleeding out, to having a vivid night terror, to being so efficient. Hunter felt a tug of pride at how quickly he composed himself.
He was rather good at that.

Or, a spiraling au starting with Belos bringing a 13-year-old Hunter with him to the human realm while Manny Noceda is still battling the disease that is slowly taking his life. Slowly uncover the various ways the surviving cast of characters are impacted and the choices they make beyond the Day of Unity that unravels this AU even further.

"On your knees, Golden Guard," Belos coldly commanded, the animalistic distortion of his voice disappearing as he reverted to his total-human form. He still held Flapjack tightly between his fingers. "Or have you forgotten how to address your Emperor?"
Hunter wordlessly sank to his knees.
"My liege," he said.
The title tasted like ash in Hunter's mouth.
"I… I'm…" Hunter heavily swallowed, hanging his head low in submissive shame. "I'm sorry for running and fighting. It was foolish— I was foolish to think I could escape you." Hunter's throat became so tight it felt like he was speaking through a pinhole. "I only delayed the inevitable. Please… please forgive me."
