    Summary

Superman stops floating, feet landing softly on the ground, how polite of him. "Batman collapsed on the thirty seventh floor of the Oceans Hotel. Superman caught him falling out the window before he hit the ground."

God, Bruce really has to find a better way to escape buildings.

Superman is evidently not done bruising Bruce's pride, as he continues, face like stone but sounding almost amused, just a hint of a southern drawl following his words, "Bruce Wayne was brought into Gotham General Hospital about five minutes later by a rescue group who found him floating around in a basket in his underwear."

"You're joking," Bruce states, rather horrified.

    Summary

"Before," Clark asks, a glass of whiskey that has absolutely no effect on him whatsoever held loosely in his hands, "Why did you hate me?"

"Well," Bruce hums, downing the rest of his own glass in one sweep for an ounce of courage, "You killed my children."

    Summary

"Father. Do not panic. I have everything under control."

Bruce immediately begins to panic, because Damian should know his father would never panic, so whatever has happened, whatever Damian claims he has under control, is undoubtedly going to make Bruce panic. Like right now. He's panicking.

But just as Bruce pushes himself to sit up on the bed, with great difficulty due to the bandages across his stomach, eyes darting over Damian to find any injuries —

Thomas Wayne, age thirty, walks through his bedroom door.

    Summary

“Just one. And don’t tell Alfred I let you have one before dinner.”

    Dick promised solemnly.

Bruce squeezed his legs, joining the line. After being in court for five hours listening to social workers and lawyers debate the legality of placing an-- at the time-- eight year old boy in a juvenile center, they deserved a treat.

    Summary

"Why did my parents leave me to you?" Bruce asks, with enough childlike genuinity and confusion that Alfred can't even be offended by the slightly backhanded accusation.

In a way, he can agree with the boy's disbelief. Why had Thomas and Martha Wayne left their darling son to a man who they barely knew in any emotional capacity? Serving them lunch and organising their linen closet is hardly a reason to write him into their wills.

Staring down at Bruce, the butler desperately tries to work out how to explain to an eight year old that his parents might have been insane.

But maybe, the insane one is him.
