“We could have that,” he croaks.
Hermione shakes her head vehemently. “They love each other. We despise each other.”
He pulls back and Hermione flinches at the expression he’s wearing. He looks like someone who has seen something terrible — eyes unfocused and face taking on a sort of stricken expression.
“We don’t need to love each other,” he says in a strangled whisper that holds the weight of words unspoken. And then in a sort of desperate plea, “We don’t even need to like each other.”

The ride to the hotel might've been five minutes, might've been five years, it's impossible to tell with the waves of heat rolling over him, each one draggin’ him further under than the last. He can see it hitting Elizabeth too. Can see her shudder with each break, her eyes gleamin’ and locked tight on his.
There's a halo flarin’ bright and gold around her curls where she's backlit against the city night rushing by, making her look like some kind of stained glass work of art installed in a church to worship. He knows it's whatever they're on, can tell from the rainbow edges forming on everything around him, but he can't help laugh a little, helpless and bitter.
She's 'bout as close to sainthood as he is.

There is an abundance of white fluffy clouds scattered throughout the sky, offering just enough coverage to kick up a nice gentle breeze and make this the perfect day of weather—
And Beth wants to scream.
She wants to throw her head back and rage against the sky until it trembles from her wrath.
Until the clouds turn dark and the sun dims a crimson red and the heavens open up and pour down all the misery she’s currently harboring in her chest.

I kinda want Rio to find out all the Dean baggage so he can be a dick to him about it. This fic happened while I was thinking of ways the writers could make him find out organically. Because Beth obviously isn’t going to tell him.

He motions with his head to the table and Beth focuses her attention there, leaning over and holding the cue stick the way she thinks is right. Not that it really matters, she’s sure it’s just a set up for whatever issue or obscure demand he has this time around. Still, it makes her jolt when she suddenly feels his hand on her thigh, fingers spread wide, digging in slightly.
