Maelle enters near-soundlessly. When she’s done hanging up her coat, she takes short, measured steps as fast as one could reasonably call walking across the room, like she’s desperate to run, like she’s keeping herself back. She’s done this every day, whether Emma’s home or not, and so Gustave knows to put down the trinket he’s fiddling with and open his arms so the girl he’d die for a thousand times over can fall into them. She squeezes him close, cheek pressed against Gustave’s chest.
He can’t blame Maelle for searching for his heartbeat. He made her watch him die, after all. It’s the one thing he’ll never be able to atone for.
When she’s apparently satisfied, she lets go and brushes her vest off. She looks composed now, walled-off, but Gustave knows better, knows that her poise is a mask.
Maelle saved the world, but she doesn’t seem happy. Gustave tries to find out why.

For the first time in a while, Astarion seriously considered Wyll. If he had to ingratiate himself with one person at camp, why not this one? He was certainly an attractive pick, in more ways than one. He wasn’t on fire, he wasn’t a Sharran, he wasn’t a militant Astral frog. And if Astarion had already managed to curry Wyll’s favor, then surely that made him the best choice, at least for now.
He knew this game. He’d use his tricks and he’d make himself indispensable to Wyll. This was how he’d survive.
After being injured in battle, Astarion slinks to his tent to be miserable in peace. (Un)fortunately for him, it seems that a certain swordsman won't leave him alone.

Angel pulled away and then threw his arms around Aki’s shoulders and pressed his mouth into his, pressing his tongue against Aki’s lips and making the most incredible little noises into his mouth, his sweet taste stronger than black coffee. Aki nipped at Angel’s lip, savored the surprised yelp he earned, then laved his tongue over it, a fake apology. Angel pulled him closer, chapped lips softening against Aki’s mouth.
He couldn’t help it. He couldn’t help the way he broke the kiss so roughly, then pushed Angel back, hand on his chest, until his knees hit the bed and he fell back.
Angel was heartbreakingly beautiful. Wings splayed and feathers twitching, hair messy and pupils blown wide, a divine creature made real. Aki placed a knee on the bed and knelt over his darling.
The M-4 hit the edge of the bed.
Aki and Angel enjoy a romantic night together, the first they've had since Aki became the Gun Fiend.
