Summary
Terry-Mikki, though she prefers Mikki, didn’t have a lot to begin with. Not a lot of trust, not a lot of connection, and certainly not a lot of care. She grew up in the system, never letting people get close enough to disappoint her. With the world crashing and burning around her, people showing their worst selves in a time of crisis, Mikki holds onto the isolation she knows so well. Until she hears a scream in the woods hunting one day, she realizes quickly that her solidarity was coming to an end as she helps an unlikely stranger find their way back to their family. She’s soon shoved into a world of people, both dead and alive, that throw her for a loop. She thought she had people figured out, but this group was unlike any people she’d met before. Especially one man, who Mikki felt so familiar with, he was so different from everyone, even the people of his group, but so similar to Mikki. Their unlikely connection forces Mikki to come to terms with the fact that being alone didn’t always mean safer, that it can hurt someone more than opening up to others. With life going so fast Mikki has to figure out if she’s going to stick around through the hard times, or leave with her heart still intact.

Summary
Just a few weeks after the dead started walking, Daryl Dixon stumbled across a 5-year-old boy alone in the woods near Atlanta. The boy had just pulled his knife out of a walker's head, which was unusual. The other kids seemed to be scared of the things, but this kid seemed as though he'd been dealing with them all his life-- or like he had been faced with scarier things all his life.
He brought the reluctant, quiet boy back to his camp, but with no one to really look out for him, Daryl resolved to keep an eye out for him. He's not the boy's daddy, of course. But someone's gotta keep an eye on him.
