Summary
In the isolated town of Graywick, frightened denizens rush home each night before the sun sets to save themselves from an attack by night thieves: immortal, red-eyed creatures that feast on the blood of humans. Lifelong friends Xisuma and Wels have spent their whole lives fleeing from the hungry beasts, but after Wels is maimed by Hypno, a particularly aggressive thief, the pair become the targets of Hypno's relentless torment.
Wels guards Xisuma against their stalker's hungry gaze until they are both attacked during a rain storm, and Xisuma is stolen from Graywick's colorless streets.
With the aid of his two brave neighbors, Wels intends to save his friend. But with no known weaknesses and a town too afraid to leave their homes after dark, confronting Xisuma's captors is easier said than done.
Meanwhile, locked away in their manor, Xisuma learns the reason behind his abduction, and the intentions the night thieves have for his blood and body.

It was like a hunger, welling and deep in the pit of his stomach, the minute Hypno found his wrist in the dark of his room, crowded himself into his space, and promptly fell asleep in his arms. He ached for him, so much he knew that as soon as he could, he was certain he would gorge himself on love. And he was pretty sure Hypno would let him. He was certain he would help. He was sure he missed him just as much.

When Wels received a message from a redacted sender, he was already on edge. He clicked into the chat, grimaging when he saw the opening frame of the attached video. The frozen frame was of Xisuma, walking down a street, completely unaware that he was being filmed. Wels immediately assumed 2 things: 1. This was definitely from a hacked security camera; he’d know that size and quality of video anywhere. And 2. He was going to hate seeing this. Any information he got from the outside world tended to come from old friends he was better off not seeing. Above the video read a text:
‘Thought you’d want to see this.’
Or: Xisuma gets kidnapped, and it's up to Evil X and Welsknight to work together to save him (and to not fight each other too much).

"Wels didn't have to wait long to figure exactly why he had gotten this house for the price he did. Or why the previous owner had practically dropped the keys in his hand and ran, the relief plain on their face. Same with why they insisted the house should just be demolished, and it would be a better use of his time and money to just let the city do what they wanted.
After loading another armful of trash and debris in the back of his truck, Wels had been dusting off his gloves as he wandered back inside. He needed to get a better look at the state of the flooring on the main floor, and had kicked aside a splintered piece of wood when the walls began to bleed. Thick streams of blood poured down from the ceiling, staining a large swathe of the grimy wallpaper with enormous, thick letters.

Or: Wels is flipping an old abandoned farmhouse, and finds that might not be as abandoned as he thought. And the current ghostly resident is not impressed with his renovations, but instead of exorcising it, Wels sets out to help it instead.

Bdubs nods. He is so tired of this. He is just so tired of how they seem to dance around each others feelings, as if they were barefoot on hot coal. Bdubs is ashamed at how he still can’t seem to say anything.
Geese caw, and Bdubs looks upwards. He hates that he does not know what Etho knows. He hates that he cannot just tear open Etho’s mind and pick through every thought, like sifting through different flowers to find the red and pink roses, only to see how they strangle each other with the hyacinths, chrysanthemums and poppies.
