That would be Lust, for the uninformed, which I highly suspect you are,” the demon finishes.
Charles takes all that in for a second, grappling with the idea that if Pain isn’t lying, then Charles is set to spend the rest of a very long eternity in Hell.
Crystal is gonna fucking kill him.

"But there is no expectation Charles, truly. Even if I could never touch you, I would love you for the rest of my existence. And you... you've had no problem with our current arrangement, despite me making it difficult at every turn. I see no reason for you to harm yourself..."
Charles feels a nearly-unbelievable fidelity pull him from his place atop the couch and to his knees in front of the other boy, so that they kneel with tearful eyes level to one another.
He takes Edwin's face between two trembling hands, lavishing the sound that even innocent touch is able to rend from the older ghost.
"You're reason enough," he oaths resolutely, pressing his forehead to Edwin's.
"There is nothing I wouldn't do for you."
***Iron makes ghosts corporeal. The boys wear iron rings so that they can touch one another.

"To put it in polite terms – Maurice Hall was a fucking mess. He’d spend days at his ex-boyfriend’s estate just to get away from his mother’s worried looks. In hindsight, wandering alone in Clive’s home was probably making the spiral worse. Especially since Clive often ignored him in favor of networking with his father’s politician friends during the day. Then at night, would sneak into his guest room and lament about their relationship, why it would never work, kiss Maurice’s hands, and then ramble about his fiancé and how nice it was to love a woman. Maurice endured it for a while, wanting to salvage the one friendship that meant the most to him."
This is my attempt at a Modern AU for Maurice by EM Forster. Not everything is a one for one comparison between this fanfiction an the original - mainly because I wanted to take some artistic liberties. This is all meant to be a fun 'what if' project!

Summary
It’s Melanie who finds the tape.
"Statement of Fiona Law, regarding the death of Angus Stacey, her subsequent release from the role of Archival Assistant, and her decision to continue regardless."
It is wedged between a fissure in a groaning filing cabinet and the tiled edge of an ancient fireplace. To access it, she has to peel back a bit of woodworm-ridden panelling and flick it out with a pen. It clatters to her feet and she almost crushes it underfoot because even though she no longer has the phantom resonance of a gunshot in her veins, it sings to her a song of slaughter.
She laughs, humourlessly, just once, and the gleeful roar of a gallows crowd echoes.

Summary
Strange things happen on the day of Martin's mother's funeral. The funeral itself is paid for in full, right down to the coffin and the plot. The people who attend it are strangers to him. When he goes wandering deeper into the cemetery, he meets a strange man with an even stranger dog.
Unfortunately, there is more to his mother's anonymous benefactor than Martin realizes. Fortunately, there's more to the man and the dog, as well.

Finding himself instantly struck blind, Jon is forced to follow the directions of a disembodied voice in his head that has control of his eye. Basically, Malevolent but it's Jonathan Sim's getting possessed by Gerard Keay, and in regular TMA timeframe, not the 1930s.

Jon sees him and, somehow, they find each other in the pages. This is what it means to fall in love with the 'what if,' to love someone already gone. This is an old song. You know how it ends.

This…this was different, though, than most of the other leads he’d followed.

There was kindness in this, leaking out through every crack in the faux stoicism. There was a softness, a care, that he’d only ever seen the edges of, up until the night before the Unknowing. Here, now, it was on full display, just barely sheened over with the resolute determination Jon always took on when he had his mind set to something. For now, leading them. Home.

It struck him, not for the first time - he’d…he’d probably follow Jon anywhere, actually, with no questions asked. Probably wouldn’t even bitch about it too, too much. Ha.
Maybe he’d ask questions later, sure, once their breathing calmed and the running had stopped, but…he’d follow. Without a doubt.

Jon and Martin escape the Lonely. Martin...doesn't quite remember what happened, immediately following. Jon needs to explain it to him, in all the gory, heartbreaking, emotionally volatile details.
