The only benefit for that is that lots of people find grief sexy for some reason so you’d clean right up.” Matt’s breathing heavy, Foggy realizes. “Did you run up all those stairs? We have an elevator now.”
“Yeah,” Matt says, breathing heavy, eyes so wide he can see them around his sunglasses.

It didn’t take too long to fall in love with Foggy.
In fact, it took all of two months. The thing was just that Foggy was the best thing to ever happen to Matt. He was kindness and warmth and laughter, and even if living with him took (a lot of) adjusting, two months in Matt caught himself wondering what it would be like to kiss Foggy.
But Foggy wasn’t his, he wasn’t dating Foggy, he had absolutely no right to feel like this just because Foggy had found somebody to date.

Matt opens his mouth to respond, then closes it again, considering. “Won’t that be the least restful time to crash at my apartment?”
“Objectively yes,” Foggy agrees. “But you’re missing the tradeoff: every night that I sleep at home before then, I’ll do it knowing that you’re not out getting your ass kicked.”
Matt and Foggy establish a new routine. It involves a lot of crashing on Matt's couch.

For most of Steve’s life, he’d been certain he was going to meet his soulmate by pissing him off. (Almost certainly a him, although the occasion of the WACs did cause Steve’s heart to stutter for more reasons than just the look of a girl in uniform.) He was sure that the conversation would go something like—
“Something something (probably something sassy), Mr. Soulmate.”
“Captain,” Capt. Soulmate would correct him.
Because that was all it said: Just “CAPTAIN”, all caps, no punctuation, in dark block letters that looked simultaneously angry and precise. So he could probably be forgiven for assuming that it was a correction for a misapplied form of address; after all, it couldn’t be someone addressing him as Captain, could it?
Aha.
Ahahahaha.

Is there still a mark on his neck from the knife? Or has that faded like the moment itself has faded. His death- because he knows now, he died- there and gone, and now, inexplicably, he’s back. Back to Varenne, back to Berenger, and none of it has happened.
