Dinner is... surprisingly easy, the conversation flowing, and Tobirama eats through half a fillet and a good amount of curry and dumplings before he sits back, folding his hands on his lap and glancing at them both.
"Not that I do not appreciate the food and the company, but I know you did not invite me here only to discuss future construction. The demography and infrastructure offices have people who are better suited than I."
Madara and Izuna look at each other. There is really no getting anything past this man, and so Madara, after a heartbeat, takes the plunge.
"We both know you are dropping."
Tobirama stiffens. His hand stills where he's been drumming his fingers on his thigh. "You assume much."

Hidan didn't look up from fiddling with the beads. "Okay."
"This is a liability on missions."
"Sure."
"There are documented methods of managing them short of completion. It involves a temporary bite. Not a bond mark— the placement is deliberate, the effect fades within days."
A pause. He raised an eyebrow. "And you're telling me this because?"
Kakuzu's jaw grew taut. Brat. "Because you're my partner and the most proximate option. I do not wish to mate with you."
Or; For the first time in decades, Kakuzu goes into pre-rut. Hidan's the most uneducated fool he's ever met. Kakuzu will just have to make do.

He’s nice and snuggly under the sheets, though there is a growing cold spot to his left where Izuna no doubt curled into his back the night before. Why his friend insisted on being the bigger spoon during every sleepover always amazed him since he was several centimeters shorter.

A soft gasp, then an elongated moan. “You could,” utters Tobirama, voice quiet but unyielding, a shiver to his spine. “It wouldn’t fix you.”
Yet I still dream of killing you, Madara doesn’t say, and they both hear it all the same between their uneven breaths and the lapsed silence.
A relationship such as theirs cannot be defined by convention, but they make it work.

Madara hadn't considered that. He'd been vaguely bemused, a little annoyed, and just… indifferent, to the rude ghost that by now has stiffed him almost 40,000 yen. But… somewhere out there, there's probably someone who'd pay at least that amount of money for the privilege of driving someone they loved around for the last time.
Madara is a taxi driver in Japan who ends up with a ghost as a regular customer.

The man was dressed in dark clothes, a wild mane of dark hair. His dark eyes shone like well polished onyx and possessed the heat of red-hot coals. Tobirama's stomach fluttered. He was too close, and smelled of blood.
Tobirama drew back, putting space between them. A warning rumble bubbled up in his throat. "I do not fear wolves."
"Only a fool would disregard the danger of a bite." The stranger chomped his teeth in emphasis, but the act was more playful than aggressive. Combined with the predatory gleam in his eyes—which suggested he delighted in the folly of fools—Tobirama was certain this man was far more dangerous than any ordinary wolf.
