    The shadows of Mordor lie close to Gondor. Too close. It poisons the air, the water, the earth, and the hearts of men.

    Denethor rules Gondor and his family with an increasingly erratic mind.

    His firstborn grows up under the pressure of duty and the feeling of blood on his hands. He first goes into battle at ten, to war at fifteen, and on a quest to save his country at twenty-eight.

    "By the blood of our men," Boromir tells the Council of Elrond, "Are your lands kept safe."

    And it's true. But Gondor is falling.

    Who will keep the Enemy's forces at bay then? Will this quest save Boromir's country or will it doom them? Will it save him from the darkness of his despair or will it ruin him further?

    (In which Eddard Stark receives a vision, and promptly yeets his backyard sociopath at the political nightmare that is King's Landing so he can deal with magic zombies in peace. This mostly works, except where it doesn't.)

    No matter what any Southerners said, the North did not intentionally keep the Awakening of the Others from them. It was just that the North thought that everyone had noticed the arrival of the Short Days that preceded the Long Night. They hadn’t.

    They didn't notice the war, the Twenty-Second War for the Dawn, that consumed the North for four whole years either.

    So when the King calls his Lords Paramount to a tourney at Harrenhal that has all the makings of going just as badly as the last, everyone is surprised.

    At 24, Percy learns that Dick died.
    At 25, Percy learns that Dick is alive, so, at 25, Percy comes back to Gotham for the first time in almost a decade.

    In which the bat-siblings are divided by Dick's return, convinced that Dick's death was faked and that he left them willingly, and as if this wasn't enough, they have an older brother they never knew about??
