-“Riches and Wonders” - The Mountain Goats-And then he hears it. A voice behind him, soft but clear. “Wei Ying.” He freezes, flute still at his lips but his breath stuck somewhere in his stomach. Even his heart seems to have stopped beating. He must have imagined it. He really wishes he could take a breath. Then again, that voice, more insistent this time, “Wei Ying.”
Finally, his lungs gasp for air and he slowly lowers his arms, trying to school his face into something other than the keening, pathetic twist it must have been just a moment ago. He shouldn’t have worried about that, though, because as soon as his eyes meet the face he knew must be there, relief washes over him so strongly that the smile unfolds there all on its own.

Summary

Summary
The Sunshot Campaign was losing. It was only a matter of time before Wen Ruohan beat them into submission. There were rumours surrounding a force in Yiling that could potentially turn the tide. The place was taken from the Wen early in the war but no one knows by whom, known only as the 'Yiling Patriarch'. All forces that the Wen have sent to try and retake Yiling have been destroyed entirely. If he allied with the campaign then it could potentially turn the tide of the war. A messenger was sent to him asking what he wants in exchange for an alliance.
The response came back: the heir of one of the Great Sects in marriage. For the war to be won, someone must be sacrificed.

Taking a deep breath he straightened his shoulders and tilted his chin up slightly in determination, “I will do it.”
The arguing continued and Lan Wangji frowned as it seemed that no one had heard him, until his eyes met his brother’s and saw that his face had gone white with shock.
Nie Mingjue looked between them, “What was that, Wangji?”
“I said, I will do it.” Lan Wangji repeated, gripping so tightly onto Bichen that his knuckles went white.
