    Summary

Shane was looking down. His eyes were squeezed shut, his brow furrowed in intense, painful concentration. His lips were moving, silently shaping the words. Good. Night. Forming them slowly, carefully, in the secret space of his own mouth.

Ilya’s breath hitched. He’d never seen this. Why would he have? Shane had never been sad around him. Never hurt. Never in this kind of quiet, defeated pain. Around Ilya, Shane had been pleasured and angry and frustrated and gloriously competitive. But never this. Never shattered.

(or, everything is same but Shane has a slight stutter that gets bad when he's sad. Ilya has never heard it because Shane has never been sad around him. Until their night in Vegas.)

    Summary

Ilya Rozanov's life takes an unexpected turn when a deadly plane crash in 2021 takes his life, right after a fight with his long-time partner, Shane Hollander. Though instead of the afterlife, Ilya is sent back to December 2008, just before his NHL career began, on the very day that he first met Shane. He finds himself in a familiar world, with knowledge of both the future and knowledge of the man he loves and the friends he holds dear.

As Ilya navigates this new reality, he rebuilds his relationship with Shane, who is still finding his path in both hockey and his identity as a gay man. With their rivalry blossoming into a different experience than the one Ilya experienced the first time around, the two face challenges around acceptance, family pressures, and the struggles of being openly gay and lovers in the sports world. Throughout their journey, Ilya contemplates his first life, cherishes the present, and strives to alter the course of their futures (and the futures of their friends) for the better.

Or, Ilya Rozanov discovers first hand what the butterfly effect is, and how it can drastically alter the future.

    Summary

“Did you just tell a customer their outfit was structurally unsound?”

    “It was.”

If you ask Shane Hollander, he'll tell you the bar's highball glasses are committing a war crime against sparkling water, your outfit has at least three structural flaws, and no, he is NOT blushing, it's just warm in here, and no, he was NOT staring at the new bartender through the gap in the ficus leaves, he was RESTING HIS EYES, and also, for the record, he doesn't care that the bartender has hazel eyes the color of warm stone in late-afternoon light or that his hands can untangle Shane's knotted fingers like they were made for exactly that purpose. He's a particularly opinionated artist with a sunset to paint. He doesn't have time for this. (He makes so much time for this.)

A neurodivergent artist with the social grace of a startled deer + a bartender with the patience of a saint + a best friend who lives for drama = a love story told in fumbled words, shared sunsets, and the quiet understanding that sometimes the most profound conversations happen without speaking a word.

Or: Shane Hollander has zero filter, zero social skills, and is absolutely in love with the new bartender his mother hired for their family bar

    Summary

“Luch-Shane,” Ilya says, catching himself only at the last moment before he breaks their no pet names in the workplace rule. “Why don’t you get some air, yes? We can-”

Shane’s anxiety takes a quick backseat to annoyance once more, at being handled like a child instead of a grown man, like he hasn’t been doing this just as long as Ilya, like he needs someone to tell him when to take a break.

Like he deserved to have everything taken away from him because he couldn’t handle it to start with.

“I’m fine,” he says, voice icy.

The step he takes away is too big, farther than he meant to get from Ilya’s side, and the air between them feels both charged and icy.

He isn’t quite bold enough to try and fix it.

(shane is married and on the same team as his husband) (and all it cost him was his whole career and the life he spent years building beforehand) (but it's fine, really) (it's all so very, very fucking fine)

    Summary

In pro sports, getting injured is just a given. Especially when the playing field isn’t a field at all, but a slick shelf of ice on which twelve men strap blades to their feet and slap a solid disc of vulcanised rubber around with big-ass sticks.

So yes, Shane is hurt. Not bad, but kind of bad. Like...in the usual kind of hockey way. It's nothing to panic about but it would be nice if Ilya texted him back with a little more concern about it. Right?

    OR

Shane gets hurt and then overthinks about everything. Ilya is a menace.
