Sal's hands carefully cupped his face and guided Travis’ downward, where their lips met. It was a bittersweet kiss. Not like their first awkward kiss on Sally’s bed while listening to music. Not like their first desperate, feverish kiss when they had sex for the first time in Larry’s treehouse. Not like the sweet nose kisses Sally gave Travis when he woke up in his arms. Not like the small, reassuring pecks Sally had given him when the world seemed to crush down on him.
This was a goodbye. It felt like crying.

Summary
Travis Phelps is gay. He calls the losers at his school “faggot” in hopes that one day he’ll wake up and not be one himself. As though if he acts straight, it’ll stick. After a while, the acting becomes easier, until he’s almost convinced himself he really is straight.
