“It has to be the pollen from that curse,” Satoru adds. “Can’t really imagine the point of it for that kind of curse, but who cares, probably something about lowered inhibitions. This is great.”

Summary
Inexplicably, one of the first ten faces Satoru sees after he's unsealed is Nanami's. Partially, obscured by distance and the buzzing swarm of everyone else, but unmistakably him. It’s enough to make him wonder if this is a hallucination of some kind, but the uproar at his appearance is enough to convince him otherwise.

“You take the bed,” is the first thing Nanami says, only one foot over the threshold, his voice brooking no argument.
Higuruma, still in the hallway, takes a moment to deduce the logic behind this. All the same, he reserves his answer until they’re both well within the confines of the hotel room – average at best, thoroughly cleaned but unable to hide the marks of long-term use from a series of rotating guests over the years, but relatively comfortable for the purposes of a single occupant.

"Hello," it says, through a mouthful of needle-sharp teeth and a pair of cold-crystal eyes, unnaturally large and glowing. It looks human enough, at first glance — perhaps in the dark of night, Nanami might mistake it for a strangely reckless swimmer. But at second glance, and in the full light of day, the details are all wrong: Cheeks too sharply pointed; hair that moves on its own in a quietly questing way, as if it weren't hair at all; the hue of the skin and shape of the jaw, the flattened nose and markings on the face; all of it points to something else.
Or: Nanami grieves himself, gets a job, meets a mermaid, and falls in love, as captured in 4 conversations.

There was no way he could know for sure that Yuuji would be safe, nor that he would be enough to protect him against at least two people, likely more, clearly capable of a horrifying amount of violence, with little care for who saw them.
