Instead, he stood, brushing his hands off against his pants, and glanced toward the bag Katie had set near the steps.
“What did you bring?”
Katie brightened slightly.
“Bread,” she said. “And soup. I think it’s still warm.”
Schlatt scoffed.
“You think?”
“I wrapped it,” she said defensively. “It should be fine.”
He walked past her without another word, grabbing the bag and heading toward the door.
Katie followed, of course.
She always did.
