Kinn thinks the fortune teller is either a liar, a spy, or a distraction planted by the minor family. Porsche thinks In looks too scared to be lying. Vegas does not believe in fate, but he knows what it feels like when a house is built to eat its children. Pete notices the way In flinches before danger happens.
And Thap, who believes in pulse, pressure, oxygen, and medicine before prophecy, has to admit the warning may be the only reason any of them survive the night.
But the prophecy is hurting In. Every card he turns leaves him colder, weaker, and closer to collapse. Worse, someone inside the house realizes the tarot reader is disrupting the plan and decides the easiest way to bring death back on schedule is to silence him first.
